Datwyler with carbon neutral production in Switzerland.
Ad hoc announcement pursuant to Art. 53 LR SIX Swiss Exchange | June 28, 2019
Sustainability report according to GRI guidelines.
In 2018, for the second time in a row, the Dätwyler Group succeeded in reducing its relative consumption of fuel, electricity, and water per unit of sales. The amount of waste per unit of sales also continued to decrease. By using a wood-fired heating plant and hydropower, Datwyler ensures that its production in Switzerland is carbon neutral. This and other interesting facts are documented in the new sustainability report according to GRI Guidelines.
Datwyler has published its eleventh sustainability report in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) regulations. The separate sustainability report meets the latest internationally recognised GRI standards as confirmed by GRI.
Reduction in relative resource consumption for the second time in a row
The Datwyler Group strives to deliver sustainable profitable growth for the benefit of its stakeholders as the foundation for adding long-term value and preserving corporate independence. As a responsible company, Datwyler wants to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, Datwyler aims to reduce its consumption of resources and the volume of waste per revenue unit. Materiality lies with the Sealing Solutions division, which consumes over 95% of the Group’s resources. In the 2018 reporting period, for the second time in a row, Datwyler succeeded in reducing its relative resource consumption per revenue unit: fuel -1.7%, electricity -1.9%, water -4.3%, and amount of waste -1.5%. This means that for water consumption, Datwyler reached its self-imposed goal of a relative reduction of 3%. Absolute water consumption also fell slightly by 1.4%. The ambitious voluntary goals for fuel, electricity, and waste were not reached. However, the trend is heading in the right direction. The relative CO2 emissions per unit of sales decreased by 0.4%. By using a wood-fired heating plant for process and heat energy and hydropower for electricity, Datwyler ensures that its production in Switzerland is carbon neutral. As a result, Datwyler saves 500,000 tons of heating oil and 3,600 tons of CO2 annually.
Living up to our social responsibility
The Datwyler Group has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2009. This is an initiative launched by the United Nations stating ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and combating corruption. As a UN Global Compact participant, Datwyler is committed to following the ten principles and to accepting its responsibility within society. This endeavour is based on the Datwyler values and the Code of Conduct, which lay down globally binding rules for all Datwyler Group employees. Through responsible management of resource use and other sustainability issues, Datwyler believes that it will create added value for its customers, stand out from its competitors, become more attractive to employees and meet societal requirements.
