"In our efforts to use resources optimally and sparingly, the combined heat and power plant offers a great potential that we want to take advantage of. The facility represents a contribution toward the sustainable, climate-friendly production of our products".
Dirk Lambrecht, Group CEO.
CO2 emissions reduced by 900 tons
Following a construction phase of approximately 12 months and a CHF 1.7 million investment, the plant was put into operation in October 2019. The combined heat and power plant works on the principle of cogeneration and is the most efficient form of energy production available at the mo-ment. The reduction in CO2 emissions amounts to around 900 tons per year. The installed system extends over 100m2 and supplies more than 7000 MWh of electricity. Around 3000 MWh of heating and cooling capacity are generated each year as well. This is used to regulate the temperature of the production site. The facility can be expanded, if required. The Dätwyler plant in Pregnana, Milan, employs around 290 people and produces high-quality sealing solutions for the pharmaceutical in-dustry.
Responsible use of natural resources
Dätwyler takes care to make responsible use of natural resources and endeavours to minimize the impacts of its production facilities and components on people and the environment. Among other things, this is reflected by the fact that the Dätwyler Group aims to exceed the environmental regulations at its production sites and has public goals for reducing relative resource consumption per sales unit. As a member of the UN Global Compact since 2009, Dätwyler has already undertaken to adhere to the ten principles in the fields of human rights, labour practices, environmental protection, and anti-corruption at a global level and to fulfil its social responsibility. Dätwyler reports on the pro-gress of its sustainability activities in an annual sustainability report in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative.
