The PDA Parenteral Packaging Conference traditionally features a strong mix of representatives from major pharmaceutical companies, packaging component suppliers, leading manufacturers of production equipment and regulatory experts. During the award ceremony at this year’s European edition in Italy, Renaud Janssen (PhD), longtime Head of Technical Services at Datwyler, was presented with the Edward Smith Packaging Science Award. With this award, Renaud Janssen was recognized by PDA for his diverse and valuable contributions to the field of pharmaceutical packaging science.
PDA’s motto is ‘Connecting People, Science and Regulation’. In his career, Renaud Janssen has supported this goal in many ways. He has been a member of PDA for almost 30 years. His early contributions were presentations at PDA conferences in Europe, the U.S., and once in Japan on various subjects related to parenteral packaging, such as extractables and leachables, elastomer formulations, coated elastomer closures and ready-for-sterilization and ready-to-use components. Over the years, he has participated in various project teams and authored technical reports, e.g. on “Prefilled Syringe User Requirements for Biotechnology Applications” or “Zero Defects for Visible Particles”.
Renaud Janssen has also been a member of the planning committee for PDA conferences in Europe, namely the Parenteral Packaging Conference and the Visual Inspection Forum, and he has been involved in several PDA training courses in Europe and the USA. For his support of PDA, he was already awarded the "PDA Europe Service Appreciation Award" in 2015.
Renaud Janssen retired at the end of 2022, after 34 years with Datwyler. The company is proud of the achievements of its longtime employee and congratulates Renaud Janssen on the PDA-award. This also represents Datwyler's leading expertise in system-critical components for injectable drugs.
