Datwyler is a new member of the Circular Rubber Platform, through which it is actively committing to a more sustainable circular economy in the elastomer industry.

Partnership with Planet Water
The partnership with Planet Water has already began in 2019. To date, Datwyler has supported a total of 37 AquaTowers, providing drinking water for some 67'000 people (status as of 1 April 2023).
Datwyler has more than 19,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels spread across six plants worldwide. This enables the company to produce around 4,400 MWh of electricity annually for its own consumption.

The plant in Schattdorf is entirely powered by renewable energy, thanks to its own solar power system, the purchase of certified hydroelectricity and its participation in a combined heat and power plant as part of a local “Self-Consumption Association” (ZEV).

Use of solar panels to generate electricity will help reduce intake from the public power grid. Supply of more than 2’100 MWh of electricity per year. Reduction of CO2 emission by some 1’800 tons per year. Second phase with solar panels on roof of new building (2022) will add another 2’500 MWh of electricitiy and reduce CO2-emissions by another 2’200 tons.

The washing of the high quality health care components requires considerable amounts of water. With the closed water circuit in its Indian plant Datwyler saves significant amounts of water in an area where water is scarce.

In 2021, Datwyler established an ESG landscape with twelve focus topics that embody the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and delivering more value for all stakeholders. The focus topics are structured according to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities and are intended to close gaps and build on existing strengths.
Each topic bundles activities relating to current and future projects, and contain clear responsibilities with measurable objectives, derived measures, and quantifiable key figures for effective monitoring.
Reducing its ecological footprint is an important aspect of sustainability, supported by many of Datwyler’s stakeholders. To achieve this, one of the company’s environmental initiatives is to attain climate neutrality (scope 1 + 2) by 2030 following the Science Based Targets approach. Other environmental initiatives focus on: embedding eco-design principles into its product and manufacturing development processes; increasing sustainability awareness and life-cycle thinking in the company; reinforcing initiatives to reduce water, heating, and electricity consumption; reducing waste generation; and finding sustainable procurement solutions through the supplier base that align with internal and external benchmarks.

The Datwyler apprentice camp has been a tradition for over 30 years. This year, the first-year apprentices supported the alpine herdsmen on the Urnerboden.
